Officials in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be hosting a virtual community discussion on child abuse prevention April 20. Sheriff Alex Villanueva will be joined by other officials to discuss child abuse prevention with the community during a virtual event as April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Along with Villanueva will be LASD Capt. Michael Hannemann, Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Hatami, Karen Imagawa, chief of staff at L.A. Children’s Hospital, and Patricia Wenskunas from Crime Stoppers. The discussion will include ways to spot child abuse and how to prevent it from occurring, as well as resources available through the county and Sheriff’s Department. ....

LOS ANGELES Authorities made hundreds of arrests and rescued dozens of adult and juvenile victims during an annual statewide operation to combat human trafficking, Los Angeles law enforcement agencies announced Thursday. More than 100 federal, state and local agencies, and task forces participated in “Operation Reclaim and Rebuild” across California, between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The statewide effort resulted in 450 people arrested, 51 of which were for an alleged felony crime. During the weeklong operation, 39 victims were rescued, including 13 children, KTLA reported. Those figures were announced during a joint news conference late Thursday morning involving LAPD, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, among others. ....
During the seven-day operation, the LAPD made 91 arrests, the Long Beach Police Department made 13 arrests, the L.A. Regional Human Trafficking Task Force made 36 arrests and the Pomona Police Department made five arrests. Statewide, 39 victims of human trafficking were rescued during the operation, including 13 juveniles, officials said. In Los Angeles County, 14 victims of human trafficking were rescued, 12 by the LAPD and two by the Pomona Police Department. Captain Michael Hannemann of the Los Angeles County Sheriff s Department s Special Victims Bureau highlighted four significant incidents that occurred during the operation, including the rescue of three victims and the arrest of man accused of trafficking them in Los Angeles. ....
