There must have been plenty of smiles under the masks of 16 Savannah Police Department officers promoted Friday, although you couldn t exactly tell.
Close friends and family members joined officers at the SPD Professional Development Center as they were promoted to different ranks. Two officers were also celebrating birthdays. I came to Savannah as a very young man at 25 years old and have been with the department nearly 25 years, Capt. Clarence Few said.
Few was promoted to city-wide afternoon captain and was pinned by his wife, Jenel. I am honored and very proud of this accomplishment, Capt. Few said. I believe that often times people forget how big law enforcement and policing is. To obtain the rank of captain in this police department means a whole lot.
