Sens. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa; Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; John Thune, R-S.D.; Michael Rounds, R-S.D.; Ben Sasse, R-Neb.; and Deb Fischer, R-Neb., on June 30 sent a letter to President Biden urging him to resist calls from Big Oil to undercut the Renewable Fuel Standard.
In the letter, the senators express concerns over reports that Biden is reportedly considering bail oil for oil refineries despite commitments he made during his campaign to strengthen the RFS and grow the U.S. biofuel manufacturing sector. “Apart from being inconsistent with your stated policy position on the campaign trail last year, this proposal is also contrary to your stated commitment to move our economy towards a cleaner anergy future, as biofuel like corn-based ethanol reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions dramatically relative to petroleum-based gasoline,” they wrote. ....

GREENE TWP. Vietnam War veteran Robert Rupert of Hanover Township received the Quilt of Valor from Hookstown Grange No1980.
Presented on May 13 by Drew Fegley, lecturer, Jill Scott, Hookstown Grange president, and Michael Rounds, legislative/agriculture chairman, the Quilt of Valor is sponsored by the National Grange, and is available to local granges to bestow to deserving veterans who saw military action in any of the wars or police action involving the U.S.
Rupert, 74, was deployed from December 1968 to December 1969 in the Army infantry. He then was selected by a pilot to be his mechanic, a job he previously held with TWA airlines prior to his being drafted. Bob earned his way up in rank to Specialist 5th Class. He kept his pilot s plane flying and in good working order. ....

Earmarks: Vulnerable House Dems seek millions of dollars in pet projects ahead of 2022 midterm

While both parties plan to make use of earmarks, vulnerable House Democrats appear to be looking for the most political benefit.
Nearly every member of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s thin majority has filed a request for an earmark, while 106 Republicans half of the House GOP contingent have done likewise. Of the 57 House Democrats considered most at risk of losing their seats next year, 56 have filed requests for earmarks with the House Appropriations Committee.
“Earmarks could literally alter the outcome of the 2022 election because freshmen or junior members who otherwise cannot pass legislation or add budget riders have the chance to secure multiple, multimillion-dollar projects,” said Colin Strother, a Texas-based Democratic consultant. ....
