Fight Over Massive Wisconsin Power Line Returns to Seventh Circuit


Federal appellate judges heard debate over whether claims of bias against two commissioners who approved the power line’s construction are enough to halt the project.

CHICAGO (CN) The tug-of-war over a major electric transmission corridor proposed to run through two Midwest states arrived back before a Seventh Circuit panel on Wednesday, where attorneys and judges raised questions over past approval of the project.
Environmental groups fighting construction of the power line say two members of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin with ties to transmission companies involved with the project were biased in approving the corridor and that the line’s approval is doing ongoing harm. The commissioners and transmission companies say there is no cognizable harm being created by the finished deal and that the allegations of bias are not supported by ....

Judge OKs rehab for Paris man charged in West Paris gun theft

PORTLAND A Paris man charged in federal court with stealing three guns during the break-in at a West Paris store last year was approved Thursday by a federal judge for transfer from jail to a drug rehabilitation facility.
U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge John H. Rich III said Scott Irish, 42, of 25 Old Route 26, could be moved from Cumberland County Jail in Portland to a residential drug addiction recovery facility where he was enrolled in a monthlong rehabilitation program.
Irish had appeared in court Monday by videoconference from the jail, but that hearing was continued to Thursday to allow time for him to be screened by the facility. ....

The Utah Jazz have played 16 games. They are 12-4 and currently tied for the second best record in the league. They have the fourth best net rating, or second best when you filter out garbage time. Basically, they’re in a groove.
