Old Saybrook The road to normalcy for some area teens took them through Old Saybrook on Thursday, where they got their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine at a drive-thru clinic. The event, targeted at 16-, 17- and 18-year-old students, drew people from all along the shoreline and Connecticut River. Among those who pulled up to the vaccination site was East Lyme High School senior Kevin Mills. The 18-year-old said his goal in getting the shot was to help end the COVID-19 pandemic so life could return to normal. For Kevin, that means being able to walk around with no mask on, being able to do stuff without having any specific requirements to follow. ....

Old Saybrook police said in a news release that Richard White, 37, of Torrington, has being charged with third-degree arson and third-degree burglary after he illegally entered a Hunter’s Ambulance facility in their town on Feb. 27 and lit and threw a Molotov cocktail that started a fire. He’s also wanted in Meriden, where police have an arrest warrant charging him with criminal attempt at first-degree arson and manufacturing of bombs for throwing an “already lit object” out of his driver’s side window and striking a Hunter’s Ambulance building in the city less than an hour after the Old Saybrook incident. ....

Richard White, 37, of Torrington, appeared in a Connecticut courtroom for the first time Wednesday after he was extradited to Old Saybrook from central Pennsylvania, where he was captured by Pennsylvania State Police the night of the fires on Feb. 27 while attempting to flee west on Interstate 80. ....
Old Saybrook PD traveled to Northumberland County Jail in Coal Township Pennsylvania to extradite White on Tuesday. The vehicle White used to flee Connecticut on the night of the incident is also being transported back to Old Saybrook Police for processing, officials said. “Today is the first step in Connecticut holding Richard White accountable for his crimes against public safety,” said Police Chief Michael A. Spera in a statement “Any person who seeks to do harm to those responsible for saving human lives is a danger to society.” He was charged with 3rd-degree arson and 3rd-degree burglary. White will be held on a $150,000 bond and taken to Middletown Superior Court on Wednesday. ....
