Former ATSU student killed in rural Iowa after mental health crisis Des Moines Register The man shot last Thursday after breaking into a rural Iowa home was a former A.T. Still University student who was suffering from a mental health crisis, according to the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office. Aaron Thompson, 28, of Brookfield, Wisconsin, broke into a home near Ottumwa and fought with the homeowner before being shot, the Ottumwa Courier reported. Thompson was flown by helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where he died. Officials said no criminal charges would be filed against the homeowner. ....
