Opinion: Ogdensburg Mayor urges public to 'vote no' on upcoming library referendum, cites lack of long-term plans

To the editor:
The Ogdensburg Public Library is asking residents of the city of Ogdensburg and the towns of Lisbon and Oswegatchie to support a taxing referendum on May 18 to provide an additional $225,000 in funding to pay for operations at the facility.
I for one, plan to vote no on the proposition.
For years the library in Ogdensburg has been mismanaged by a board of trustees that have done very little to seek creative solutions to how to improve operations and increase patronage. They have done so during a period when library funding was being cut back by city officials. ....

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - Protests, job cuts, shouting matches at city hall. It hasnât been pretty for Ogdensburg. But Moodyâs credit rating agency has given a vote of confidence to the city when it comes to finances.
âI think this certainly is affirmation that weâre doing the right thing for the city and weâre moving in the right direction,â said Stephen Jellie, Ogdensburg city manager.
Previously the cityâs bonds were considered a substantial credit risk â âjunk bonds.â Now theyâre investment grade. The report cited this yearâs 10 percent tax cut as one reason. ....

TOWN OF FOWLER, N.Y. (WWNY) - Ogdensburg Mayor Mike Skelly pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a charge of second-degree harassment stemming from an incident during a protest outside Ogdensburg City Hall.
Skelly was virtually arraigned on the charge in Fowler Town Court before Justice Tim Knowlton. The case was moved to Fowler after other judges cited conflicts of interest.
It’s alleged that on the evening of December 9 Skelly was getting ready to enter city hall when he pushed then-fire captain Gerald Mack to the ground. ....
