Youths recognized in YMCA-FCA scholarship program
PRATTVILLE Jenna Stilling was surprised to hear her name called out Monday night as the winner of the Willis Bradford Christian Leadership Award.
The Prattville Christian Academy senior was among six qualifiers from high schools serving Autauga County for the YMCA-Fellowship of Christian Athletes program. Jenna, a self-described introvert, said the presentation by Mike Lamar, a member of the Y s board, could have applied to any of the qualifiers. I read through the social media posts that the YMCA put out about a week ago and I knew that all those statements described every single one of the individuals out here so I really didn t expect it, she said. A Siskiyou County woman who opened a shop in Yreka’s historic district this winter hopes to fill a gap in the town’s business offerings.
Lorin LaMarr, 27, of Fort Jones opened the Copper Mountain Boutique LLC on Miner Street in December. The shop features women’s clothing and accessories.
Her stock is mostly young contemporary in design, LaMarr said, including a selection of denim jeans, shorts and jackets in different styles.
Designers include Kan Can and Risen.
“Throughout the spring you’ll be seeing a lot of floral dresses for special occasions, too,” she said.
LaMarr said she tries to stock styles that aren’t available at local big-box stores, like Walmart.
