Residents across the metro area say downtown Portland has become dirty, unsafe and uninviting and many anticipate visiting the city’s core less often after the pandemic than they did before.
Those are the worrisome findings of a new poll of 600 people half who live within Portland’s city limits commissioned by The Oregonian/OregonLive. Asked for their perceptions of downtown, respondents frequently used words like “destroyed,” “trashed,” “riots” and “sad.” Many cited homelessness as a particular issue, and said there ....

Software company New Relic said Thursday that founding CEO Lew Cirne is stepping down after a contentious year characterized by dramatically slower growth and his increasingly difficult relationship with employees. He will now be executive chairman.

Former clients of Portland online banker Simple remained unable to access their accounts Tuesday, and they were unable to reach the bank that now holds their money after its customer service systems crashed amid a flood of calls from outraged customers.
Simple was owned by Spanish banking giant BBVA, which announced in January it would shut down the Portland banker and transfer clients’ accounts to BBVA. That transition took place on schedule Saturday, but BBVA botched the handover and locked many customers out of their accounts. ....

Blount International, a Milwaukie
company that sells chainsaws, chainsaw components and other agricultural and landscaping equipment, said Monday that it will change its name to Oregon Tool.
Founded in 1947, the business was originally known as Oregon Saw Chain Co. It had 4,000 employees, about 900 of them in Oregon, at the time of its $855 million sale to two private equity firms in 2015. ....
