When wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in 2006 following an investigation into his sexual activities with teenage girls, the case ended in a shockingly lenient plea bargain. He pled guilty to soliciting prostitution and served 13 months in a county jail before resuming his jet-setting lifestyle. His rearrest in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges was largely the result of a hard-hitting investigative series in the Miami Herald, which relied on a wealth of documentary evidence and the firsthand accounts of women who said they were repeatedly abused as adolescents by Epstein in his Palm Beach, Fla., mansion. They also said they were paid to recruit other teenage girls for him to exploit. ....

Residents demand action over alarming water quality at Zandvlei Nature Reserve 20 April 2021 1:02 PM Share This: Residents have started a petition demanding action from the City of Cape Town over the deteriorating water quality at the Zandvlei Nature Reserve. Concerned residents say that pollution and sewage spills into the vlei are degrading the waters of the nature reserve in Muizenberg. An online petition was started two weeks ago on Change.org to save Zandvlei Nature Reserve. It has garnered over 5,300 signatures as of Tuesday 20 April. Residents are demanding that the City s mayco member for water and waste, Xanthea Limberg, and the mayco member for spatial planning and environment, Marian Niewoudt, meet with the community to discuss the immediate action required to protect Zandvlei from future sewage and industrial spills. ....
