Virtanen resigns as tourism director to take on new gig News13 July 2021 By Chad Ingram This week is Amanda Virtanen’s final one as tourism director for the County of Haliburton, as she resigns her post for a position as vice president of a marketing and branding agency. Virtanen, who started with the county in the spring of 2013 and modernized the marketing activities of its tourism department, will work her final day on June 14. “I’ve truly enjoyed working with the many tourism business owners and partners in the Haliburton Highlands over the past eight years. As the community emerges from the pandemic, there’s an exciting future ahead with much opportunity for tourism in our region,” Virtanen told the Echo. “I’m looking forward to the next chapter for me, and truly grateful that I’ll be able to continue living and working in the Highlands.” ....

Photo from Heather Prentice More than 150 people paddled away from the Frisco Marina boat ramp Friday morning, July 9, in what many people regard as one of the most unique summer triathlon events in the state: the Frisco Triathlon. “The volunteers were awesome, and for such a small little spot, the marina, for them to pull this race off is pretty impressive,” said men’s individual race winner Victor Ruggiero, 48, of Durango. “And there’s just a great overall vibe afterward.” ....
