Templeâs annual Fourth of July fireworks show is coming back with a bang this year. The city announced the return of the H-E-B All American Family Fun Festival this week, after being canceled last year. This yearâs festival will take place at Crossroads Park, 1020 Research Parkway, for the first time after being hosted at Miller Park in previous years. Mike Mayfield, with the cityâs parks and recreations department, said the event is still in the planning phase and organizers are paying attention to how the coronavirus will factor in. âWe are planning on it to go forward, and if something changes we will modify it,â Mayfield said. ....

Rush Health Systems employee health coordinator Jessie Upchurch vaccinates respiratory therapist Mike Mayfield on Wednesday. Two physicians, a respiratory therapist and an emergency nurse received the first COVID-19 vaccines at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian on Wednesday. The hospital received its first vaccine allotment Wednesday morning, and vaccinations began at 1:30 p.m., according to Dr. Fred Duggan, Rush Health Systems chief medical officer. âWeâve beenâ¦really at the epicenter of this for almost nine to ten months,â Duggan said, âand to finally see something that may make a break in this is really exciting.â Dr. Walt Willis, medical director of Rush Critical Access Hospitals and Primary Care Clinics, Chief of the Emergency Department Dr. Patrick Kirkland, ER nurse Stephanie Dunlap and respiratory therapist Mike Mayfield were the first four recipients. ....
