United States 1933 Double Eagle $20 Gold Coin The 1933 double eagle $20 gold coin is one of American Numismatics’ most notorious coins. Only one surviving specimen was ever monetized and made legal to own, yet an uncertain number of examples still exist. When the United States made the controversial decision in 1933 to suspend the gold standard that it had based its monetary policy on since the turn of the 20th century, most double eagles dated that year were summarily melted down. It was an ignoble end for the most spectacular of all American coin designs. That American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens would have a hand in creating that design and remaking American coinage was no easy accomplishment. At 10 a.m. Friday, Iowa reported another 740 cases of COVID-19 and 27 additional COVID-19-related deaths including another in Johnson County since the state s tally at 10 a.m. Thursday, according to Coronavirus.Iowa.gov. Officials report a total of 5,223 people with COVID-19 have died from the disease across the state, including 68 in Johnson County. The death reported Friday was the third this week and the 21st so far this year. The county s first was reported April 4. Deaths reported are not deaths that have occurred within the past 24 hours, but only represent deaths that were added to the IDPH dashboard within the past 24 hours. It often takes more than a week or even two or three for a death to be added to the IDPH dashboard after a person has died. ....
IOWA CITY Although millions of distributed COVID-19 vaccine doses have yet to make it into American arms, University of Iowa Health Care has used every dose it got “within seven days of receiving it,” officials said Wednesday. UIHC has no plans to extend the reach of its limited vaccine supply by administering just half of the recommended two-dose course to employees as some national experts have suggested in hopes of getting more Americans at least some degree of protection as the virus continues its spread. “We will continue to provide a second dose to employees in accordance with guidance from the (Food and Drug Administration),” officials said. ....
