Gilas Pilipinas to tap Kai Sotto for FIBA Asia Cup final window, Olympic qualifiers

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on Tuesday said Kai Sotto is included in their plans for the final window of FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
According to SBP president Al Panlilio, the 18-year-old big man is part of the list for the 20 to 25-man pool expected to enter the Gilas Pilipinas training bubble by the end of the month.
We just have to talk to him and reach out to him again, Panlilio said in a virtual conference on Tuesday. We have not finalized our calendar yet. Once we do, we will have to share with him what the plan is and [talk to him] on what he is doing, align that with what is ours. ....

PBA News: NLEX gets to pick twice in Gilas round of PBA draft

Terrafirma will still have the no. 1 pick, followed by NorthPort at no. 2, and then the NLEX selections.
The no. 3 pick originally was owned by Blackwater, but it was traded to NLEX as a part of the three-team trade which sent Poy Erram from NLEX to TNT and delivered Ed Daquioag to the Bossing.

After NLEX makes the fourth selection in the special Gilas round, all 12 teams will progress to the regular draft process, following the same order with Terrafirma and NorthPort once again making the top two selections.
The four players named by SBP will be part of the national team pool, to join 2019 draftees Isaac Go, Rey Suerte, Allyn Bulanadi, and brothers Matt and Mike Nieto as players under contract for the federation. ....

Gilas Pilipinas set to add players to its pool from PBA rookie draft

THE Philippine national men’s basketball team is set to add players to its pool from the rookie draft of the local professional league set for March.
Following its meeting with the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) last week, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) submitted a list of players it is interested in tapping to be part of the national team program in preparation for future international competitions.
The local basketball federation said it will be picking Jordan Heading, Tzaddy Rangel and Jaydee Tungcab from the special PBA rookie draft for Gilas on March 14.
The three players will join Isaac Go (Terrafirma), Matt Nieto (NLEX), Mike Nieto (Rain or Shine), Rey Suerte (Blackwater), and Allyn Bulanadi (Alaska), Gilas draftees in 2019, as full-time members of the Gilas Pilipinas pool. ....

A member of the last national team that participated in a PBA conference is backing the idea of having Gilas Pilipinas compete in the pro league’s 46th season.
Alaska guard Jvee Casio said that the possible participation in the season-opening Philippine Cup could benefit Gilas in the long term, especially now that it needs to gain more experience by playing as many games as possible.
“I think it will be a big help for Gilas to play in the PBA,” Casio said in One Sports’ The Game which aired Wednesday night.
“One is they have to play games and important yun to gain experience, to know the system na ginagamit nila, siyempre yung chemistry ng team and it will build from there,” added Casio. ....
