Simone Joyaux, ACFRE, Adv Dip, FAFP, a renowned fundraiser, author, mentor, teacher, and activist and recognized internationally as one of the leading voices for fundraising and philanthropy passed away on Sunday, May 2, according to the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Simone began her career in 1975. She served as executive director of a small nonprofit in Lansing, Mich., and then served as chief development officer for Trinity Repertory Company for many years. She was a consultant to a range of RI non-profits over three decades.
She worked with Rhode Island for Community Justice, Rhode Island Urban Debate League, Blithewold, Coggeshall Farm Museum, Everett Dance Theatre, College Unbound, Festival Ballet, Gamm Theatre, International Tennis Hall of Fame, Linden Place, Music School, Newport Art Museum, Steel Yard, Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless, to name just a few.
Fundraising Mentor Simone P. Joyaux Dies

Internationally known and respected fundraiser Simone P. Joyaux, ACFRE, died Sunday at a hospital in Rhode Island. She was 72. Joyaux suffered a stroke caused by cerebral amyloid angiopathy this past Thursday, a condition diagnosed 14 months ago.
Arrangements are not yet finalized, said her husband, Tom Ahern. She’ll be cremated, he said. “Simone was not in favor of rituals of funerals and such.”
Joyaux was known around the globe as a fundraising mentor and social justice advocate. She received the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in 1984 and then the Advanced Certified Fund Raising Executive (ACFRE) in 1994.
