BEAUMONT, Texas Local ministries are reaching out to help a growing group of people who are staying on the streets of Beaumont.
Many Southeast Texans have driven past the growing group of people who are staying under the overpass at I-10 and College Street. One Beaumont church is stepping up and confronting a crisis head-on.

BEAUMONT, Texas A company called Arbor Renewable Gas wants to spend more than $1 billion to build a facility in Beaumont. However, they need the city s permission to create a special reinvestment zone to accomplish that goal.
“We assume that these kinds of companies are targeting Southeast Texas because of the refineries, Interstate 10 and the port of Beaumont,” Randy Feldshcau, Beaumont city councilman, said. “This area has a rich history of gas, oil and refining.” ....

BEAUMONT, Texas More homeless camps have popped up across the City of Beaumont, according to the head of the city s homeless coalition.
“Obviously bad weather is a burden on the homeless,” Beaumont City Councilman Mike Getz said.
Like many drivers, he s noticed the growing group seeking shelter under the Interstate 10 overpass at College Street. “During these regular rain events for the most part, they re reasonably well sheltered either in tents or under this underpass,” Getz said. ....

LA PORTE, Texas Beaumont city councilman Mike Getz believes the Neches River is the perfect place to relocate the historic Battleship Texas after it undergoes repairs.
The overhaul should start next year, and the historic ship would be ready to move to a new port sometime in 2023. The ship has been docked in La Porte for more than 70 years.
I think it s a great opportunity,” Getz said. “It s something I think that would promote Beaumont. I think it would draw a lot of people into Beaumont. Getz believes it s a move that would put Beaumont on the map. ....
