(WALB) - First Responders are very aware of the vital need for blood donations. That’s why our local first responders are banding together to give the gift of life at the 8th Annual Cordele Badges for Life blood drive. It’s being held in memory of Mike Koontz, a well-known and beloved member of the Cordele and surrounding area medical community. He passed away last year at Crisp Regional Hospital. Citizens are invited to donate blood and join first responders helping to assure a safe and ready blood supply in the community at all times. All lifesaving donors will receive a Badges for Life T-shirt, $10 eGift Card, A wellness check-up of blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and iron count, plus a cholesterol screening. ....

Kings Island is set to open to season pass holders this weekend and to the general public on May 15. Park officials are counting on visitors to flood back to the Mason amusement park after many stayed away during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. They believe pent-up demand to get out, a hunger to return to normalcy and growing confidence from mass vaccinations will shut down the beleaguered industry’s own roller coaster ride of the last year. General manager Mike Koontz says demand is still down from 2019 levels but rebounding. One of North America’s busiest parks, Kings Island attracted more than 3 million visitors in 2019. ....
Their grand opening for the event was the weekend of March 27 â 28. The event will be held the last weekend of every month until November with the next one being this Saturday and Sunday. Michele and Darin Helsel are the ones who came up with the idea for the event. One day they thought about doing something for the community and families that was different. âI didnât want something that is strictly one thing,â said Michele Helsel. âI wanted a family gathering that had something for everyone, not just women. I wanted something for men and kids too.â Then they came up with having the monthly barn sales with vendors, childrenâs craft corner, food trucks, and will continue to add more things to do as it evolves. ....
