LebTown Renewal after death: how a Lebanon man’s loss prompted the planting of a special dawn redwood grove in South Hills Park

In nature and in life, death is inevitable. But after death, the process of renewal can begin.
Chris Black, a 29-year-old Lebanon man, has been planting and tending to trees in South Hills Park, just south of the city of Lebanon, for several years.
Black’s focus in the park has primarily been on a small area of woodland on the southern edge of the park’s boundary with the Lebanon VA property. It’s in the midst of the park’s disc golf course, a fact that Black has had to take into consideration when deciding where and what trees to plant some species can take a frisbee hit better than others.
On March 9, voters will decide funding requests for several school districts in southwest and central Idaho.
Ten school districts - with voters in seven counties - have put supplemental levies on the ballot. Below you will find a breakdown of each funding request, including the question that you will see on your ballot.
In addition to the levy elections, two elected officials are on ballots for recall elections. One is the mayor of Hagerman, while the other is a Nampa School Board member.

When: South Lebanon Township supervisors meeting, Jan. 26.
What happened: The board approved waiver requests for an industrial property at 3000 State Drive, allowing the former Lebanon Alcoa Plant to be developed into two large distribution warehouses. DHL supply chain intends to purchase the property from current owners Lotus Land LLC. DHL has already submitted plans to South Lebanon outlining the specifics of the development. Construction could begin as early as May.
In other business: Supervisors accepted the resignation of South Hills Park manager Mike Kipp, who is retiring following 17 years of service to the township. In a related matter, the board hired Scott Walker as South Hills Parkâs new manager. Walker has been employed by the township for three years as a part-time highway and part-time park employee. Prior to that, he had a 37-year career with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, some of which was spent as a supervisor.
