Coconino NF conducting highly visible prescribed burn near Naval Observatory today | Arizona Emergency information Network

The Coconino National Forest is conducting a highly visible prescribed burn today located just east of the Naval Observatory in Flagstaff.
The 135-acre burn – which is scheduled to last one day – will likely produce large amounts of smoke visible from in and around the Flagstaff area due to light north and west winds forecasted throughout the morning.
The burn is being conducted to continue forest health and restoration in areas previously treated by mechanical thinning projects.
There are no closures or restrictions anticipated due to this burn.
In addition to the Naval burn, the Upper Beaver Creek project on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District, located about seven miles south of Mormon Lake, will continue today with 450 acres planned. Winds are expected to push smoke east over Lake Mary Road. This is the final burn planned on the Upper Beaver Creek project for the season. ....

Coconino National Forest Crews Planning Several Burns Next Week | KAFF News - Flagstaff

There will be several prescribed burns in the Coconino National Forest this week, one will be close to Flagstaff. Fire managers say they will perform a maintenance burn around 135 acres from Tuesday through Friday just east of the Naval Observatory. Smoke is predicted to move to the east, however there is a chance it could blow to the south. Smoke from the fire is expected to be lighter than bigger burns. Smoke will be visible from Flagstaff, Interstate-40, Interstate-17 and Highway’s 89, 89A and 180. Crews will continue to burn on the Upper Beaver Creek project seven miles south of Mormon Lake this week. Then the Mint East burn project will treat over 25-hundred acres southeast of Mormon Lake Village. That burn will last at least through Friday. Smoke from that burn will be seen from Flagstaff and surrounding areas and is expected to move to the northeast. ....

Next week's prescribed burns include highly visible Naval Observatory project | Arizona Emergency information Network

Where: Mogollon Rim Ranger District. Approximately seven miles south of Mormon Lake. GPS: 34.780833, -111.448056
Why: This burn is part of a grassland restoration project that will improve forage for cattle and wildlife. It will also reduce hazardous fuels, such as dead wood and pine needles, that have accumulated in the burn area.
Size: 1,000 acres.
Method/Type of Burn: Broadcast burn.
Smoke Impacts: Smoke is expected to move to the northeast, so smoke impact can be expected near Lake Mary Road and surrounding homes south of Stoneman Lake Road.
Closures/Restrictions: None are anticipated.
Notes: This is the final burn planned on the Upper Beaver Creek area for this spring. ....

Coconino National Forest firefighters will be continuing ongoing work on seasonal prescribed burns in both the Flagstaff and Red Rock ranger districts throughout the week.
The Upper Beaver Creek project on the Red Rock Ranger District near Stoneman Lake started last week will continue today. Of the 2,000 acres planned for this week, 920 acres are scheduled to be burned today. ....
