Government entities, utilities and watchdog groups say a merger between Public Service Company of New Mexico and Avangrid could harm both ratepayers and the environment unless protections are included. These entities filed testimony in a New Mexico Public Regulation Commission case evaluating the merger. This merger is subject to the PRC approval as well as approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. PNM’s parent company, PNM Resources, is seeking to merge with Avangrid, a U.S. subsidiary of renewable energy giant Iberdrola, which is based in Spain. The PRC hearings related to the merger are scheduled to start on May 3 and testimony has been filed expressing a variety of concerns. ....
FARMINGTON Northern Edge Casino in Upper Fruitland and Fire Rock Casino near Gallup will reopen March 19, a year after gaming operations stopped as part of preventive measures against COVID-19. The Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise announced on March 16 that both locations will operate under a soft reopening for two weeks. The enterprise will evaluate operations at the end of the two-week period and possibly reopen its other properties, which include Flowing Water Casino in Hogback and Twin Arrows Casino Resort near Flagstaff, Arizona, according to a press release. For now, Northern Edge and Fire Rock will only be accessible to Navajo Nation residents and operate under temporary protocols, including hours of operation from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, maximum occupancy at 25%, social distancing enforcement and no food or beverage services. ....

FRUITLAND – Robbin Tanner carefully arranged supplies needed to administer the first doses of COVID-19 vaccines to David and Nina Mays at their home on the Navajo Nation. Tanner, a public health nurse with Northern Navajo Medical Center, has been working with Maxine Tsosie, a community health representative with the Navajo Department of Health, to identify and vaccinate individuals who are unable to leave home, typically due to illness or age. David Mays greeted Tanner and Tsosie on Feb. 24, then talked about his bout with COVID-19 last March and about his interest in getting the vaccine. The couple tried to get vaccinated at drive-thru events in Nenahnezad and Upper Fruitland but were discouraged by long lines and hearing that supplies were limited. ....
