Ranchi: A day after the Jharkhand government allowed intra-state bus services to resume, a majority of the operators chose to not ply their vehicles on Thursday. Of the 1,200 buses that ply across Jharkhand, only 400-odd vehicles resumed their operations after a three-month lull. “It will take at least four days for all the buses to hit the streets,” Ranchi Bus Owners Association president Krishna Mohan Singh said. “The batteries are dead and insurance papers have expired. Drivers and other staff have gone back to their homes and taken up odd jobs. Though the state has allowed inter-district transport to resume, these arrangements will take time to complete,” Singh added. ....
SRINAGAR: A 35-year-old man from Kund belt of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district was found hanging in a rented accommodation in Upper Bazar area of Qazigund on Saturday. An official told that the man identified as Shabir Ahmad Naikoo(35) son of Sonaullah Naikoo, a resident of Waripora Kund was found hanging at Upper Bazar Qazigund. He said that the man was working in post office on contract basis. He added that the man was residing in a rent accommodation at Qazigund in the house of Ghulam Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Salam Mir, a resident of Chaimullah since November 25 last year. ....
Ranchi police sealed a garment shop in Upper Bazar, the capital’s wholesale market, after a surprise raid on Sunday afternoon and registered FIRs against the shop owner and six others for violation of the partial lockdown in the wake of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. An official of Kotwali police station said that an FIR has been filed under Disaster Management Act, 2005 on the shop owner Waris Malik and six other employees for illegally keeping the shop open during the lockdown. “While the shutter of the shop was down, there were many customers inside it. Customers were let go with a warning but the shop owner and staff were booked for violating the lockdown rules. As per the norms, garment shops are completely shut down till further orders while other operations of other entities that are permitted and considered essentials are allowed to run till 2pm,” said a cop at Kotwali police station, who was part of the raid team. ....
