He was arrested a year later and convicted of murder, before the charge was thrown out. Beckett is now asking the Supreme Court to find him not guilty once and for all. It comes after the Crown lodged an appeal against his conviction being overturned. If the Supreme Court decides not to hear the Crown appeal, the acquittal will remain. ....

While we didn’t have much work during the first half of the year, we made up for it in the second half. We’d like to thank our locals for supporting our company and helping to keep us in business. Starting from January to March we didn’t have a lot of trips going out, and then just as we were ramping up for a good spring fishery, everything was shut down. However, in June when travel was opened up a bit, fishing became a very popular activity and our business picked right up. ....
Laura Letts-Beckett drowned in Upper Arrow Lake near Revelstoke on Aug. 18, 2010, while the couple was out for an evening boat ride. No one witnessed the drowning and there is no physical evidence linking Beckett to his wife’s death. Prosecutors have alleged he killed Letts-Beckett out of greed, hoping to cash in on life insurance payouts and her teachers’ pension. Beckett was arrested and charged with his wife’s murder in August 2011 and he had been in custody since then prior to Friday’s release. Beckett stood trial twice in B.C. Supreme Court for the murder of his wife once in Kamloops and again in Kelowna. The first trial ended with a hung jury after jurors remained deadlocked following a week of deliberation; the second trial resulted in a first-degree murder conviction. ....
