Now entering Uptown: Seattle City Council resolution to reaffirm neighborhood name stirs debate by Callie Craighead, SeattlePI It was Shakespeare who once famously asked What s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. But for those living in the area of Seattle known as Lower Queen Anne but now officially recognized as Uptown, the significance of the neighborhood s name is up for debate. The Seattle City Council passed a resolution Monday officially recognizing the neighborhood as Uptown and requiring city entities to label it correctly. Sponsored by Councilmember Andrew Lewis, the aim of the resolution was to differentiate the neighborhood from Queen Anne. The main attractions in Uptown which spans the area west of Aurora Avenue North, north of West Denny Way, east of Elliott Avenue West and south of Roy Street include the Seattle Center, which will soon be home to the revamped and renamed Climate Pl ....
| Two weeks ago, we reported on the plan to build the West Seattle Neighborhood Greenway all the way into North Admiral, instead of having its north end at The Junction. The city also announced two drop-in meetings for feedback, and plans for a survey. The first of those meetings is tomorrow morning – and the survey is open now. You can answer it here, and/or stop by Uptown Espresso at California/Edmunds/Erskine, 10:30-noon on Saturday. Meantime, from an update sent by SDOT, more information about the greenway plan: Our final route for the West Seattle Neighborhood Greenway reflects many of the needs we heard from the community to connect people with schools, parks, local businesses, and the greater transportation network. But just before the pandemic began she took out a lease on a third location, this one at 7900 35th Ave SW. just next to Locol Barley and Vine and near Kenyon Hall and The Westy Sports and Spirits. Then COVID-19 caused many businesses to cutback or close. For Julie it led to a drop of around 50% in business (and the bridge closure did not help) and a big delay in her plans for a new spot.
