More Oregon school districts are allowing students to return to classrooms to do limited in-person instruction. For many students, it’s their first time in a physical classroom since March.
We’re in cohort A, which is Mondays and Tuesdays, they’re in the classroom. Wednesdays and Thursdays, they’re virtual learning or distance learning,” said Jenny Alsman, a parent of two students who attend River Mill Elementary School.
Alsman said her family decided to return to physical classrooms and believes the school is doing a good job at keeping students and teachers safe in the middle of a pandemic. ....

PORTLAND, Ore. More Oregon seniors have their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Music filled the halls of The Ackerly at Timberland senior living facility in Portland on Friday.
Feels like a party! general manager Matt Ryan said.
The entrance decked out in balloons welcomed seniors in for their vaccination appointments.
Ryan helped organize the event with CVS Health for months. ....

UMATILLA COUNTY â More Oregon students will likely be returning to classrooms soon as Gov. Kate Brown announced on Wednesday, Dec. 23, that metrics for reopening classrooms would shift from mandatory rules to guidelines.
She directed the Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority to work with school districts to create plans based on science to put more students âon trackâ to return to the classroom by Feb. 15, 2021.
While the change gives districts the power to decide for themselves when to reopen, Brown emphasized that school districts should be working health experts to make decisions based on health and safety, and that schools choosing to reopen will still be required to follow mandates such as mask-wearing and social distancing in the classroom. ....
