LAKESIDE The county confirmed Monday that two dozen jacaranda trees will be removed by Friday in Lakeside, dashing hopes of the community that they could be saved. San Diego County spokeswoman Donna Durckel said that the trees that line a vacant lot on Woodside Avenue are still scheduled for removal by a private contractor this week to make way for a new San Diego County library. Grading started Monday for the 16,400-square-foot library, which will be three times larger than the nearly 60-year-old branch two blocks away. The new $19 million facility will have a community room for events, a bookstore and large spaces for children and teenagers. ....

The program is administered by Contra Costa County, which received $75 million as part of federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program funds from the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. A total of $2.6 billion was allocated for Californians in need of rental relief. “This funding for COVID-19 relief cannot come any sooner to help provide the hardest hit individuals and families in Contra Costa with financial assistance with rent and utilities payments and help them gain back financial and housing stability,” said Board Chair, Supervisor Diane Burgis. “My colleagues on the board and I remain committed to helping residents get back on their feet, especially now that we have safe, effective vaccines that will help end this pandemic.” ....
Napa County will examine how well its COVID-19 vaccination program worked in the early days, though where a vaccination given to county Supervisor Belia Ramos fits in â if at all â remains to be seen. The county Board of Supervisors on Thursday considered the proposal at the request of Supervisor Diane Dillon. It voted to move ahead by unanimous vote. Dillon brought up doing a report at last Tuesdayâs Board of Supervisors meeting. She mentioned âa colleagueâ who had received a first-dose vaccination in January as raising questions among some in the public.
