Amarillo College receives grant to help fund Adams Earn and Learn program
Officials with Amarillo College announced Monday that it has received a grant to help fund its Adams Earn and Learn Program.
According to a news release, the college received a $246,417 grant from the Trellis Foundation for the program. The foundation focuses on improving postsecondary attainment for low-income students and students of color in Texas.
The college plans to use the funds to fund a program coordinator position for the Earn and Learn program, helping the program build partnerships and arrange apprenticeships for participants, the release stated. Through the apprenticeships, the students will be paired with participating local businesses, and the coordinator will also help track the students’ progress and results in the program. ....

Amarillo College refunds two of its bonds

Taking advantage of low interest rates, officials with Amarillo College announced during Tuesday’s Board of Regents meeting that it made the decision to refund two of the college’s six bonds, the bonds from 2011 and 2012, subsequently saving nearly $900,000 in interest.
Chris Sharp, the vice president of business affairs for the college, said the 2011 bond, costing $2.785 million, was refunded at an interest rate of 1.25%, saving $361,561 in interest.
“I’ve been doing this for about 20 years and this is the lowest rate I have seen on bonds,” Sharp told the board. “It’s really good.”
On the 2012 bond, which cost $10.55 million, it was refunded at a 1.77% interest rate, saving $526,509 in interest. Combining the savings from the two bonds being refunded, the college will not have to pay back $888,070 in interest. ....

Family Access Network Redmond luncheon raises over $32,000
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) During the week of Feb. 22, supporters of The Family Access Network (FAN) Foundation gathered virtually on an event website to celebrate the fourth annual Redmond Luncheon fundraiser.
With almost 100 website visitors, this event raised over $32,000 for Redmond FAN.
SunWest Builders provided the Title Sponsorship for the fourth year. The other monetary and in-kind event sponsors were key to making the event possible.
The generosity of individuals who made one-time and sustaining donations were essential to helping FAN reach our fundraising goal; furthermore, new monthly gifts were matched by Monte Vista Homes, doubling the impact. ....

Amarillo College's Innovation Outpost will be region's agent of change

The Innovation Outpost, an initiative of Amarillo College meant to bring additional vitality to downtown, moved another step closer to reality last week when the AC Board of Regents approved financial resources to support the project.
Regents previously have okayed a site plan for construction of the project as well as establishing the Amarillo School of Cinematic Arts in conjunction with the faith-based film studio, Sharpened Iron Studios.
At their meeting last week, they agreed to a measure that will make available just more than $2 million of the college’s reserve funds to the Innovation Outpost over a five-year period as needed to support the project. According to our story, Amarillo College’s reserves stood at just more than $20 million prior to the decision. ....
