Oneida Indian Nation to unveil statue in Rome NY


The unveiling will take place at 11 a.m. at 301 W. Dominick St. 
Officials expected to attend include Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter, Rome Mayor Jacqueline Izzo and Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. 
Izzo said the project was completely funded by the Nation and will help kick off public art projects on West Dominick Street, which is part of the city’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) project. 
“There is a lot of history, and this is another way to showcase our history to the country,” Izzo said.

Rome police seek help in shots-fired case that damaged Stan's Seafood

The Rome Police Department is asking for the public s help in a shots-fired case that damaged a business.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 700 block of West Dominick Street for multiple reports of shots fired. 
Upon arrival, they were unable to locate a victim or suspect. The initial investigation discovered gunfire damage to Stan’s Seafood at 726 W. Dominick St., police said.
A parked vehicle on the street also was damaged.
It is believed at this time no one was injured in this incident, police said.

Rome man, Utica man face felony weapon charges after traffic stop

A Rome man and Utica man face a felony weapons charge following a traffic stop in Rome on Friday, city police said.
Officer Zachary Hadasz conducted a traffic stop at about 12:30 a.m. on North James Street, near West Dominick Street, for multiple traffic violations, police said.
Upon speaking with the driver, Anthony Roberts, 30, of Rome, the officer noticed open containers of an alcohol beverage in the vehicle and a handgun on the floor in the back seat, officials said.
Roberts and his passenger, Kevin Monroe, 27, of Utica, were removed from the vehicle without incident, police said.
Patrolman Hadasz then secured a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun from the back seat floor of the vehicle, along with two open containers of an alcoholic beverage and a quantity of suspected marijuana, police said. ....
