Chilton, Edward (1658–1707) – Encyclopedia Virginia


Edward Chilton served as attorney general of Virginia and was the coauthor of
The Present State of Virginia, and the College (printed in 1727). He arrived in Virginia by 1682, when he served as a clerk for the governor’s Council and the General Assembly. He also acquired several thousand acres of land. In 1694 Chilton returned to England, where he became a barrister. He remained involved with Virginia affairs and testified before the Board of Trade about conditions in the colony in 1696. The following year Chilton, along with James Blair and Henry Hartwell, prepared a report on the colony titled
The Present State of Virginia, and the College. He requested and acquired the position of Barbados’s attorney general in 1699. He died in Portsmouth, England, in 1707. ....

Atlantic County Closes Bridge in Folsom Due to "Extensive Damage"


Officials with Atlantic County report that beginning today (Tuesday, April 13th), the Eighth Street Bridge over the Penny Pot Stream in Folsom will be closed after an inspection revealed, extensive damage to the superstructure of the bridge. Officials say the damage is so bad that the bridge will need to be replaced.

The bridge is located between the Atlantic City Expressway and Mays Landing-Blue Anchor Road (which is right off of the Black Horse Pike). The route is a straight run between the eastern parts of Hammonton and Route 322.

Stark County accident victim Jessica Recinos remembered as 'lovely'


TOULON – “An outgoing and lovely girl” who was “a fantastic worker” and “a wonderful mother” whose “whole life was pretty much her daughter.”
Those were some of the ways that family and friends of Jessica Patricia Recinos remembered the 32-year-old Springfield woman, who died recently in a two-vehicle accident in rural Stark County.
Recinos was driving her 2002 Toyota RAV 4 east on County Road 300N, which is also known locally as the West Jersey Blacktop, shortly after 7 a.m. March 29, police said. At the intersection with Illinois Route 78, her small SUV collided with a trailer pulled by a southbound semi, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was not hurt. ....

The establishment of the Middle and Southern English Colonies of North America was encouraged by the earlier English settlements of Jamestown Colony of Virginia in the south (founded 1607) and Plymouth Colony and, especially, Massachusetts Bay Colony in the north (founded 1620 and 1630 respectively). These early colonies not only inspired more English to cross the Atlantic to start a new life in North America but, in the Middle Colonies especially, those of other nations.
The colonies of New England grew primarily from the Massachusetts Bay Colony following Plymouth’s success. Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire were all developed by religious dissenters from Massachusetts Bay. The regions which would become the Middle Colonies were largely controlled by the Dutch until 1664 while the lands of the future Southern Colonies were inhabited by Native Americans who were displaced as Vir ....
