West Branch students get real-life medical lesson Special to The Alliance Review ALLIANCE – West Branch High School students had an up-close lesson in medicine during a recent classroom visit. Dr. David Kanagy, a physician at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital, met with ninth- and 10th-graders in the school s biomedical science class to discuss the path to becoming a physician. During the visit, he got a little help from his son, Michael, who is a 10th-grader. The board-certified otolaryngologist conducted a Q&A session for the students, answering questions about various procedures he does both in office and in a surgical setting. ....

Public invited to West Branch STEM showcase Special to The Alliance Review BELOIT – West Branch Local Schools has invited the community to its STEM night from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Doors open at 6 p.m., when students will display projects and engage with members of the public in conversation about their projects and classes. A program presentation will begin at 7 p.m., with recognition of community organizations and businesses that have sponsored the program. The event will be in the Old Gym, at 14277 S. Main St. in Beloit. Visitors should park in the south lot. Student displays will highlight projects from science, technology, engineering and mathematics (which make up STEM). Classes include engineering, biomedical science, computer science, design and modeling, coding, computer applications and medical detectives. ....
Timothy Saxton will not return to West Branch Local Schools as the district’s superintendent. On Wednesday, the West Branch Local Schools Board of Education voted to extend Micki Egli s stint as acting superintendent through July. Egli has held the position since Saxton was granted Family Medical Leave on Aug. 29. Egli also serves as the district’s director of special services. Per Saxton s request, the Board of Education agreed for him to transition to a teaching position upon his return. The news release announcing the two moves did not list a date for Saxton’s return. The Board will be carefully considering options as it prepares for a leadership transition over the summer, according to the news release. ....
