Local funds back Rural Funds capital raise Share Rural Funds Group raised $30 million from institutional shareholders and will tap retail investors this week for the remainder of the $100 million it is seeking to boost its macadamia plantings and acquire water licences and cattle-grazing land. The take-up reflected the split in shareholding, with institutions accounting for only about 30 per cent of units in the country’s largest listed farmland trust, which has a relatively high level of retail shareholders. Rural Funds has begun planting macadamia trees in Bundaberg (pictured), Maryborough and Rockhampton. As many as 99 per cent of eligible Australian and New Zealand institutions took up their rights under the offer – and 83 per cent of institutions overall – and many local institutions are looking to increase their stakes further from any shortfall left over from retail entitlements. ....

Rural Funds Group raising $100m for macadamia initiatives Share Stockbrokers Bell Potter, Wilsons and UBS have been tapped for a $100 million rights issue by farms owner Rural Funds Group. Rural Funds has begun planting macadamia trees in Bundaberg (pictured), Maryborough and Rockhampton. The offer to existing investors comes with a $2.47 per share price tag - a 5 per cent discount to its last close price of $2.60. The agriculture real estate trust will invest the funds in its macadamia orchards, having revealed in February that it would plant 500 hectares of new macadamia orchards this calendar year. Part of the funds have also been flagged for investments in cattle operations, with the group already close to the likes of JBS and AACo, leasing land to the big corporate farmers and feedlot owners. ....
