Waxahachie City Council to swear in new members on Tuesday


Newly-elected Wallace, Smith to take oaths of office; body will reorganize

Newly-elected councilmembers Billie Wallace and Travis M. Smith will be sworn in to 2-year terms on the Waxahachie City Council during a special meeting on Tuesday.
Wallace was elected in a runoff election last weekend for Place 4 on the council, and Smith likewise won the runoff for Place 5. They will replace Mary Lou Shipley and Charles “Chuck” Beatty respectively, after each incumbent failed to win re-election.
Before the swearing-in ceremony, the council will canvass and accept votes of the June 5 runoff election.
Once the two new councilmembers are seated, the council will reorganize, and will select a mayor and mayor pro-tem from among the five members. The city’s charter provides that a mayor and mayor pro-tem will be selected from among the councilmembers. ....

Waxahachie City Council nixes Dominion Park development plan


209-home development off Ovilla Road is sent back to the drawing board

Declining to follow the lead of the city Planning and Zoning Commission last week, the Waxahachie City Council denied a zoning change for a 209-home development in the 400 block of Ovilla Road during Monday night’s regular semimonthly meeting.
The vote to deny was 4-1, with Mayor Pro Tem Mary Lou Shipley casting the only vote for approval.
The new neighborhood, known as Dominion Park, was to be a mix of architectural styles and lot sizes with a total of 13 style variations, Hi View Real Estate broker associate Brett Hess told the council. ....
