Johnson & Wales will require vaccinations for students


The university said it made the decision after careful consultation with government and public health officials.
In making vaccination a requirement, Johnson & Wales joins several other schools around New England and Rhode Island, including Brown University in Providence and Roger Williams University in Bristol.
Johnson & Wales says it will give consideration to students requesting an exemption for medical, religious or other reasons.
Students in online degree programs or participating in online-only continuing education programs won t be required to get vaccinated unless they plan to use campus facilities such as the library, fitness center or dining halls.
Faculty and staff are not required to get vaccinated, although the university says it is strongly encouraging it, especially for those whose work requires them to be on campus. ....

College leaders on Thursday continued to strongly condemn the violence that the took place at the U.S. Capitol this week, adding to a growing chorus of criticism by presidents and provosts from across the country. The recent statements were much longer and more formal than the initial reactions issued in the hours shortly after angry mobs of supporters of President Trump rioted and forced their way into the building.
