Action For Climate Empowerment: New Drive For Society-Wide Climate Action
UN Climate Change News, 10 May 2021 – A new project to empower all members of society to engage in climate action, particularly non-Party stakeholders such as youth or gender-based stakeholders, has been launched by a partnership led by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action.
The Action for Climate Empowerment Innovation Project (ACE
AT) initiative intends to raise the visibility of non-Party stakeholders’ efforts, as well as to empower all members of society to engage in meaningful climate action. To this end, the project will serve as a strategic space to share knowledge and visions about how to best address climate change across all of society. It currently has thematic focus areas on youth, gender, and climate action in African countries. ....

Young negotiators inject 'new blood' into climate decision-making

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - At the last major U.N. climate change talks, in Madrid in December 2019, Marie-Claire Graf, then 23, led Switzerland’s negotiations on efforts to boost the capacity of developing countries to cut emissions and adapt to a warmer world.
Graf, a sustainability and politics student, had studied the issue and was asked by the Swiss president’s office to take on the role as the best-qualified person for the job.
But some senior negotiators were not ready to accept that someone so young could be trusted with the task.
One asked Graf to put him in touch with the Swiss delegate in charge. “I told him that I am the Swiss negotiator leading on this matter,” said Graf, now 24. ....
