Pueblo Police investigating homicide following altercation at hospital

PUEBLO â Pueblo Police responded to St. Mary Corwin on Feb. 10, 2021 regarding a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they found medical staff rendering aid to 36-year-old Mathew Haskel Jones.
Police said Jones had been involved in a physical altercation with hospital security staff before they got there.
Jones was transported to a hospital in Colorado Springs on the date of the incident and then died at that hospital on February 18, 2021.
Pueblo Police began investigating the incident as a suspicious death. Following an autopsy, it was determined that the cause of Jonesâs death was homicide. The Pueblo Police Department is now investigating this incident as a homicide, and the investigation is active and ongoing.

Community pitches in to help 80-year-old cancer patient

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) An 80-year-old cancer patient of St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo recently missed two treatment appointments. Her care team noticed her absence, which caused concern. They contacted the patient and discovered her water heater had broken.
With no water heater, due to the recent extreme winter freeze, social workers from Centura Health reached out to Rampart Supply, a local Colorado Springs business. The team from Rampart Supply replaced the water heater for free.
Mike s Heating and Plumbing also pitched in to replace and repair the patient s water pipes, since her water pipes burst and she had no running water.
To us, it was the beginning of the end of the pandemic,” said Glen Griesheim, the chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at St. Mary-Corwin.
Since then, the hospital has doled out approximately 2,000 doses at its two vaccination sites at the hospital and in Pueblo West on Spaulding Avenue.
That’s part of the 27,454 first doses and 17,909 second doses that have been administered in Pueblo County as of Feb. 25, according to the Pueblo Department of Health and Environment. Statewide, 495,961 people have received two doses as of March 1, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
The county health department estimates it has vaccinated about 40% of the county’s population of people aged 65 years or older at its mass vaccination site at the Pueblo Mall. That doesn’t include efforts by organizations such as St. Mary Corwin at other sites.
