Officials work to get people vaccinated for COVID-19 as demand slows, but skepticism remains


Vaccine providers are trying to encourage more North Dakotans to get a COVID-19 shot as demand plateaus, but many people remain skeptical of the available vaccines.
Public health departments and local hospitals told the Tribune that they re trying to reach out to the community to get people who haven t been vaccinated in for a jab. The state Health Department is planning a mass media campaign to increase vaccination rates, as well.
Providers attribute the drop in demand to several factors, including a lack of convenience and concerns about vaccine safety. They ve also heard that others prefer to wait and see while the people they know get vaccinated. ....

After a challenging year for schools during the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic, the semester is drawing to a close. In this section, the superintendent of Catholic schools looks back on the year. It explores how teacher vaccines have made an impact, as well as what graduations and the fall semester might look like. Principals have continued their educational growth despite the overwhelming trials of the year and schools are saying goodbye to longtime educators, including Steve Wells at Catholic High School.

Steve Wells remembers his first day as a teacher at Catholic High School in Little Rock. The North Little Rock native had come to the painful decision not to return for his fourth year at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas and dropped in on his former principal Father George Tribou with the news. A year in, the student-led nonprofit continues to evolve. Its latest tool: a vaccine text line.

Portland Student Pandemic Response, an online-based, student-led nonprofit, has developed an interactive vaccine text line that helps Oregonians find and schedule nearby COVID-19 vaccine appointments. It s just one of the many student projects the group has undertaken since April of 2020. 
About a year ago exactly, in April 2020, Rye Scholin and Zumee Hasan—both students at St. Mary’s Academy in downtown Portland— founded Portland Student Pandemic Response, an online-based, student-run nonprofit. Back then, it wasn’t quite the bustling nonprofit making moves that it is today. Its early website acted simply as a catalog of service opportunities for local students to filter through and decid ....
