Amid all that change, they remain constants in the town. First National Bank at Paris The First National Bank at Paris is by far the oldest business on the square. It opened in 1891 as the Bank of Paris, according to information provided by the company. W.R. Cherry founded the bank, and P.B. Cox was the bank s first president. It transitioned to a national bank in 1920. For more than 124 years, First National Bank at Paris has been an integral business in our town. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in nursing from UNC Chapel Hill, Pollitt worked as a home health nurse and as the first school nurse in Watauga County, where she focused on tobacco and teen pregnancy prevention. She went on to earn two master’s degrees and holds a PhD in curriculum and instruction from UNC Greensboro.
