VDH COVID-19 Update: Over 70 percent vaccinated, Scott moves state closer to 'normal'


Burlington Mayor Weinberger issued the following statement today regarding the mask mandate in the City of Burlington: 
“The new guidance released by the Center for Disease Control [CDC] yesterday marks a significant milestone in our more than year-long fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. I fully support the Governor Phil Scott’s move to quickly lift the masking requirements for vaccinated people in most settings, and the City team is working swiftly to take parallel action in here in Burlington. 
“Beginning today we will not enforce the City’s Emergency Order requiring face coverings  for fully vaccinated people, and I have called a Special Meeting of the City Council for Monday May 17th at 5:30 pm in order to rescind the requirement for vaccinated individuals.  ....

Weinberger to resume search for Burlington's next police chief


Search process will begin with robust public engagement effort and community survey
by Timothy McQuiston, Vermont Business Magazine Today, Mayor Miro Weinberger announced that the city will resume its search for Burlington’s next permanent Police Chief. One year ago, Mayor Weinberger suspended the Police Chief search due to the uncertain circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the goal of re-starting the search after the mayoral election.
“We need structural and cultural transformation of law enforcement in this country and in Burlington, and to forge a new consensus on the future of public safety here,” said Mayor Miro Weinberger. “Our new Police Chief will play an essential leadership role in that work. Our hope is to have a community informed hiring process that fosters trust and creates a strong foundation for our public safety transformation.” ....

City of Burlington creates Aging Council | Vermont Business Magazine


Committee proposal receives strong support from Mayor Weinberger and unanimous vote from City Council
Vermont Business Magazine The City created its first Burlington Aging Council through Council resolution at the April 26 City Council meeting. The purpose of the committee is to elevate the contributions of older adults in Burlington, raise issues facing older in Burlington and the organizations that serve them, and make policy recommendations to the Mayor and City Council to address service gaps, needs, and opportunities that impact older adults in the Burlington community.
