Fireworks will once again brighten the skies the east metro area with several Fourth of July celebrations set to take place over the holiday weekend. After a pandemic hiatus last year, Conyersâ Independence Day celebration â Red, White & Boom! â returns this year on July 3 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The city of Conyers and Rockdale County governments have partnered to bring back Independence Day fireworks to the heart of Olde Town on Saturday, July 3, from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. âAfter missing out on the July 4 celebration in 2020 due to the pandemic, I am very excited that weâre able to bring this popular event back this year with a fabulous fireworks show. This will be yet another great event that will allow us to feel that things are truly getting back to the way they were,â said Mayor Vince Evans. ....

BELLAIRE Village Council voted to do away with its parking meters and instead move to chalking tires in its business district. During a regular meeting Thursday, council voted 4-3 to get rid of the parking meters, which have been the topic of much discussion and debate over the years. Voting in favor of removal were Jerry Olack, Elizabeth Dugmore, Donnie Maupin and Mayor Vince DiFabrizio. Opposed were Jerry Fisher, Nikki Liberatore and Michael Doyle. ....

CONYERS â The open house and ribbon cutting for the new Conyers City Hall planned for Monday, Dec. 21, has been postponed due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the community. The Rockdale County has been categorized as having a high transmission rate, according to information provided by the Rockdale Emergency Management Agency. âTo err on the side of caution and with the safety of all in mind, the difficult decision was made to postpone the Dec. 21 open house in the hopes that the event will be rescheduled in the coming months,â said Mayor Vince Evans. âThe building is still very much open for business, and weâre hopeful that those who stop in to conduct business or attend a meeting will feel welcome and enjoy a glimpse of its beauty.â ....
