Mayor Nelson sworn in for another term at Amarillo City Council meeting

During Tuesday’s regular meeting of the city of Amarillo’s city council, Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson was officially sworn in for another term, coming after candidate Claudette Smith challenged the race through recount proceedings after the results of the May 1 election.
According to previous reports by the Amarillo Globe-News, Nelson, along with Place One Council member Cole Stanley, Place Two Council member Freda Powell, Place Three Council member Eddy Sauer and Place Four Council member Howard Smith were all elected to their respective positions May 1.
However after the results came out, mayoral candidate Claudette Smith requested a recount for the mayor’s race. Because of the proceedings, it delayed the official canvassing and the swearing in of Nelson for this term as Mayor, something Nelson spoke about during the council meeting. ....

American Quarter Horse Association to stay in Amarillo

City of Amarillo officials expressed excitement regarding the change in conversation surrounding the home of the American Quarter Horse Association after the council approved an action item concerning the association on Tuesday.
“We are going to celebrate today as we change the phrase…’please stay AQHA’ to ‘hooray AQHA,’” Mayor Ginger Nelson said during a Tuesday afternoon news conference. “Amarillo is proud to be your home.”
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Amarillo City Council approved a location incentive agreement from the Amarillo Economic Development Corp. to keep the home of the AQHA in Amarillo for 10 years after there were conversations that the association was moving to Fort Worth. ....

Maple Shade fire department threatens legal action amid suspension

MAPLE SHADE The fire department Friday said it is seeking legal action to get back in its fire hall and resume services following the township s decision to suspend the department for 90 days.
The news came a day after residents and community members demanded answers about the 90-day suspension of The Independent Fire Company No.1.
Our building which is owned and deeded to Independent Fire Company No. 1 was illegally entered and seized by the Township Manager and council without any due process or notice. Our legal council is working diligently to get access to our building, the department said in a social media post Friday. ....

Ginger Nelson Officially Gets Her Second Term as Amarillo Mayor
Stick a fork in the Amarillo Mayors race it s done. The 4 way dance which let s really face it was between Incumbent Ginger Nelson and Claudette Smith and at times just got down right ugly. Yes, there were two other candidates, Michael Hunt and Carl Karas who each could have gotten more attention but the money was on Ginger and Claudette. I don t have a dog in this fight and I m just calling it as I see it being a newbie here.

As the Edmonds City Council starts to discuss the Edmonds Citizens Housing Commission (ECHC) recommended policies, some of us who served as commissioners and alternates would like to share our thoughts on a path forward.
In March, a minority of former housing commission members presented an appeal to Edmonds residents to support the full set of housing policy recommendations of the ECHC (Letter to the editor: Affordable housing for Edmonds – the real story –
My Edmonds News). However, in their letter to the editor, part of their “real story” was left out. Of the policy recommendations submitted by the ECHC, some had unanimous support from the Housing Commission members, while many did not. The policy advocating for the elimination of single-family zoning, as we know it, throughout Edmonds had considerable debate and was forwarded based on a simple majority vote.
