MACON, Ga. For the first time in 13 years, a transition of power is underway inside the Macon-Bibb County Government Center. Mayor Robert Reichert is preparing to step down, and Mayor-Elect Lester Miller will take over.
You can tell how busy it is when you walk into the Government Center from the ongoing renovations to Reichert and Miller getting ready for the big transition at the beginning of the year.
The mayor s office is being renovated for the first time in at least 13 years. It s getting a fresh coat of paint and new carpet. In the hall, portraits are waiting to be hung of the new mayor and commission.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) Mayor-Elect Lester Miller is preparaing to take office in two weeks. He met with his transitional team Friday, to discuss goals and strategies for 2021 and beyond.
According to Miller, his blueprint for Macon-Bibb County is complete and will be put in place for the next four years.
Miller says his team has been working to identify the concerns residents have. Over 2,000 have shared their ideas. As a result, he and his team have prioritized five areas from the community’s input to create goals and actions to help solve problems.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb Commissioners said a public farewell to Mayor Robert Reichert Tuesday.
Mayor Reichert hosted his final commission meeting after serving the city for 13 years. The mayor says his time has come to a bittersweet end.
Several commissioners said goodbye to him by sharing their favorite memories with him. The county also put together a farewell video for the mayor recognizing his accomplishments.
Mayor Reichert says although he and his team made strides in the community, there is still more to do.
“Our motto of forward together has been realized, and while there is much more work to be done, it is undeniable that we are moving in the right direction,” Reichert said. “And so it is with mixed emotions that I bid you farewell.
