Stanton to Host Myanmar Democracy Awareness Rally

STANTON, Calif. Mayor David Shawver said he felt like he needed to do something.
As a longtime patron of Irrawaddy Taste of Burma, Orange County s only Burmese restaurant in Stanton, Shawver became friends with the owner, Banny Hong. Shawver learned about the history of Burma now known as Myanmar and interacted with the Burmese community members who also dined at the restaurant.

STANTON, Calif. Burmese citizens in Orange County, California, say they’re heartbroken by the ongoing situation in Burma (also known as Myanmar) following last month’s military coup, and are urging U.S. officials to become more actively involved in restoring the country’s democracy.
The city of Stanton is home to Orange County’s largest Burmese community and the county’s only Burmese restaurant, Irrawaddy Taste of Burma. Restaurant owner Banny Hong, along with other members of the Burmese diaspora in the region, are concerned for family members and friends suffering through the turmoil. ....

City Councils Join Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes' challenge to a court order Mandating early release of up to 50 percent of the inmates – Soldier of Fortune Magazine

At a special meeting held on Mon, Dec 21, our City Council voted to direct the City Attorney’s office to file or join an amicus brief in support of OC Sheriff Don Barnes’ challenge to a court order regarding the release of inmates, Sheriff Barnes said, adding:
Yesterday at a special meeting the Irvine City Council unanimously voted to file an amicus brief in response to a Dec. 11 court order that requires an early release of up to 50 percent of the inmates currently held in Orange County jails.
The Court order that triggered the appeal was a result of the ACLU Lawsuit ....
