Georgia: Black Lives Matter Atlanta Police agents killed all four of these young Black men in Georgia, and the struggle to prosecute and convict their murderers is ongoing. Jamarion Robinson Jamarion Robinson was killed Aug. 5, 2016, at the East Point apartment of his partner, by a heavily armed force from seven police agencies under the direction of the U.S. Marshals. Carrying submachine guns in addition to usual police handguns, more than 90 shots were fired with 76 bullets hitting Jamarion. What brought on this massive firepower to arrest this former college athlete who was getting ready to return to school in a few days? They were looking for someone who had allegedly displayed a gun a few days earlier. No body cameras were worn by any of the police to verify their claims that they were fired upon first. Yet, all the bullet holes in the apartment door come from outside. ....

The coming Westside development carries with it concerns that it will result in the runaway gentrification that came to Eastside neighborhoods like the Old Fourth Ward following projects like Ponce City Market and the BeltLine, and which is already emerging on the Southside as the BeltLine takes shape in neighborhoods like West End. On the Westside, massive projects like the redevelopment of the Bellwood Quarry into a gleaming new Westside Park, and Microsoft committing to building a new campus nearby, threaten a gentrification bomb on the historically Black and underserved Grove Park neighborhood. ....

Despite her strong national profile, she’s run into some headwinds ahead of her expected run for reelection. The city has seen a spike in crime and she would have faced at least a couple of primary challengers. Two are already in the race, another could be joining and there is the shadow of her old ally-turned-critic, former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. ....
