Wellington mayor Andy Foster has been accused of delaying tactics over a vote for mana whenua representatives to sit on all council committees and subcommittees with full voting rights.
Currently, representatives of Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust and Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira Incorporated are members of two council committees.
While they have a seat at the table and can discuss and debate matters, they do not have the right to vote and are not remunerated. ....

Green spaces and new pedestrian connections to the city and waterfront are part of the Wellington City Council’s grand vision to revitalise the rundown Te Ngākau Civic Square.
But the redevelopment will add to the financial pressure on the council, and Mayor Andy Foster said it was inevitable the council would need to bring in private developers. That could lead to more tension within the council, where a proposal to partly privatise the council’s library building proved controversial. ....

Consultation Now Open On Wellington City Council's 10-Year Plan

Wellington Mayor Andy Foster is delighted that the draft
2021-31 Long-term Plan is out for
consultation.
“This draft is ambitious, and it
centres on the much-needed investment in our infrastructure
that our city has been crying out for, and on solving
resilience issues,” he explains. “It is investment we
need to underpin a modern, dynamic, creative, sustainable
city.
“The capital programme is our largest to date,
representing a $400 million greater investment than our last
Long-term Plan, and this in turn will increase Council debt

News that Wellington has been confirmed as a Host City for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ reinforces the city’s reputation as New Zealand’s home of football.
A joint Australia-New Zealand bid to host one of the largest sporting events on the planet was confirmed by FIFA in mid-2020. There was strong interest from cities on both sides of the ditch to host matches.
The 32-team tournament is scheduled to be staged in 2023 with Wellington confirmed as a Host City. Exactly how many games will be played in Wellington will be determined later in 2021 but all will be played at Wellington Regional Stadium. ....
