A new Governor of Maghaberry Prison has been appointed. The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) selected David Savage as the new Governor and he took up the post on Monday 03 May having served as Deputy Governor at the Prison since 2019.

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has announced that he will be a candidate to succeed Arlene Foster as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). A man has been charged with 63 offences after shots were fired in an incident in north Belfast on Sunday.
The 32-year-old man was arrested after reports that two shots had been fired on Silverstream Road at about 10:30am.
A window of a property on Manor Street was also damaged.
After the man was detained, police searched a property on the Crumlin Road.
Charges included possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, discharging a firearm in a public place and possession of firearms and ammunition in suspicious circumstances. ....

Belfast: Man charged with 63 offences after shots fired

A man facing 63 gun charges after shots were fired in north Belfast had done the Good Samaritan and gone wrong , a court has heard.
Mark Daniel Waller, 32, of Crumlin Road, Belfast, faces charges including having a gun and ammunition in suspicious circumstances.
The court heard that in follow-up searches, which included Mr Waller s home, 27 suspected firearms were found.
These included four shotguns, a number of pistols and ammunition.
The 63 charges relate to a shooting incident at Silverstream Road and Manor Street on Sunday, 2 May.
Belfast Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday that police received a report that a man had smashed a window at a house in Manor Street. ....

A new Governor of Maghaberry Prison has been appointed.
The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) selected David Savage as the new Governor and he took up the post on Monday 03 May having served as Deputy Governor at the Prison since 2019.
Governor Savage takes over from Governor David Kennedy who has been promoted to Director of Prisons at Prison Service Headquarters.
Welcoming the appointment, Director General Ronnie Armour said: David joined the Service in 1997 as an Auxiliary Officer and has worked his way up through various grades to this position. He has played a pivotal role in Maghaberry over the past number of years and in particular through the pandemic. ....
