Five PA board members recuse themselves from db project decision

Five Planning Authority board members on Thursday recused themselves from a hearing that is due to decide on a controversial mega hotel and residential complex in Pembroke, citing perceived conflict of interest.
The €250 million db project will see the construction of a 12-storey hotel and two 17- and 18-storey residential towers on the former ITS site.
PA chairman Vince Cassar, Environmental Resources Authority chairman Victor Axiak, Joseph Brincat and NGO representative Annick Bonello sent a note to the board saying that although they believed they could decide on the matter, they had decided to withdraw from the hearing anyway. Lawyer Chris Cilia recused himself over a potential professional conflict.   ....

This one's on us: restaurants to match vouchers with ones of their own

Select restaurants will be handing out €15 vouchers to customers who spend their government vouchers there, as part of a new scheme that launches on Thursday.
The new voucher scheme will allow customers to use their red €15 voucher at restaurants forming part of the scheme, and receive another €15 voucher in exchange, to be used specifically at that establishment.
Customers will be offered the equivalent number of vouchers that they have used at that restaurant.
The new voucher scheme was launched by the Association of Catering Establishments, a sectoral lobby group. Forty of the association s 400 members have pushed the incentive, which will be open to all ACE members.  ....

PA to vote on Pembroke DB Group towers for a second time next week

Opposition to DB Group plans to build three towers in Pembroke appears to have been “easily shrugged off”, critics have said, with the project recommended for approval by a Planning Authority case officer.
The Planning Authority board will decide on the group’s application to build its City Centre project at a hearing to be held next week on Thursday, June 10.
The project, already approved by the PA back in 2018, was sent back to the drawing board in 2019 after a court found that one of the PA members who voted in favour of the project, Matthew Pace, had a potential financial interest in it being approved.  ....
