Time is right for Griffiths and de Kock to strike Posted by: RS NewsWire+ at 4:40pm on 26/4/2021 As the better class horses have their winter break, Robbie Griffiths and Matthew de Kock hope to strike during the off-season. While the weather may not dictate that winter is approaching, a look through the nominations at Sandown suggests the off-season is upon us. After a spate of meetings at Caulfield that featured a stakes’ race of some description, there will be no such thing on Saturday. A handicap over 1400m, a two-year-old handicap, one for three-year-olds with the remainder all benchmark races is the recipe for Saturday’s nine-race card. ....

Description I m pleased to offer this cracking type of colt by the very good young son of Commands in Epaulette. This colt is out of Honolulu Lass, a well bred mare by Hinchinbrook from the Group 2 winner Velasco. I loved this colt from the moment I first saw him as a foal at Yarraman Park in the Hunter Valley. He has always had presence and this was evident at this year s Magic Million s Gold Coast Sale where was the 12th last horse to go through the ring. I m certain this cost the breeders as he would have been more expensive earlier in the sale. ....
Link to Share Mathew de Kock believes Imagine Howe can break his maiden status at the ninth attempt ahead of Sunday s meeting at Sale. Imagine Howe is an acceptor for the $35,000 RAL Constructions Maiden Plate (1740m) at Sale and has been placed three of eight starts, finishing fourth at his past two starts in metropolitan maiden company. The gelded son of Reset finished behind Captain Canuck over 1600 metres at Moonee Valley on October 30 but had a break between starts when finishing fourth of seven starters in the $50,000 Neds Bet Back Maiden Plate (1440m) at Caulfield on December 16. He had a little rest because he wasn’t settling in his work so we just went back to square one, changed some equipment on him and he settled last time out, de Kock said, with a crossover nose band used for the first time at Caulfield. ....
Carl Di Iorio Jockey(s) to watch: Laura Lafferty is yet to ride a city winner but that should change quickly in 2021. The vast majority of her winners, as is the case with most apprentices early in their career, settled top three, but she s won races during December with some intelligent off-pace rides, displaying greater timing and composure. I predict that Damien Oliver will win this season s Melbourne Jockeys Premiership. He s ridden almost enough seconds to complete a minute already this season although his choice of rides will be slightly impacted by the minimum weight in the metropolitan area returning to 54kg. ....
