COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah — Some Cottonwood Heights residents are upset after the city announced it would not open a popular splash pad at the Mountainview Park for the 2021 summer season.
We were so excited to get the splash pad up and going again and then all of a sudden we get that shortage of snow in the winter and now we re not having enough water, said Ben Hill, executive director of the Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation Service Area.

Gov. Spencer Cox declared a state of emergency because of worsening drought conditions, Hill and city officials met to discuss water usage plans for city recreation facilities. ....

A new survey led by researchers from North Carolina State University found that the future of hunting in the United States might look different than it has in the past.
In
The Journal of Wildlife Management, researchers reported findings from a nationwide survey of college students interest and participation in hunting. They found current, active hunters were more likely to be white, male and from rural areas, and to have family members who hunted. But they also found a group of potential hunters - with no hunting experience but an interest in trying it - who were more diverse in terms of gender, race and ethnicity. ....

The University of Kentucky, Murry State University, and Purdue University are all trying to figure out if some local livestock deaths are caused by black vultures.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The University of Kentucky, Murry State University, and Purdue University are all trying to figure out if some local livestock deaths are caused by black vultures.
The researchers are hoping to help farmers prevent future calf loss. The study coordinator and assistant professor of wildlife management at UK, Dr. Matt Springer, is trying to reach out to cattle farmers for information. ....

LEXINGTON — University of Kentucky Forestry and Natural Resources Extension’s weekly online program, “From the Woods Today,” looks at the forest through the trees in April, offering relevant and interesting information about woodlands and wildlife each Wednesday at 11 a.m. EDT. 
The program streams on Zoom and on Facebook Live. Hosts Billy Thomas and Reneé Williams, UK extension forester and information specialist, respectively, welcome UK specialists who share their knowledge of Kentucky’s forests and the creatures that call them home. 
April’s episodes include: 
April 7: Matt Springer, assistant extension professor of wildlife management, will talk about the Black Vulture Project, and Ellen Crocker, assistant extension professor of forest health, will bring insight into pesky plants.  ....
