Maritime teens credited with discovering new species of dragonfly from 300 million years ago

For 17-year-old best friends Luke Allen and Rowan Norrad of Halifax, summer means going to Grand Lake, N.B., and searching the rocky shorelines for signs of life from long ago – and the two have been making a name for themselves with their significant fossil finds.
My dad was the one who introduced me to the fossils here, says Norrad.
He showed me a few plant fossils they d found before and I was hooked. I brought Luke down – he s my best friend so I brought him down to stay with us at the cottage and I showed him – he s been coming here to do it again ever since. ....

'A beautiful sight': New Brunswick's Cape Enrage to welcome back visitors with new fossil tours

One of New Brunswick’s most popular tourist destinations will welcome visitors back this summer.
Cape Enrage is renowned around the world for its iconic lighthouse and its stunning views of the Bay of Fundy tides. But last summer, the site was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting May 21, New Brunswickers can once again venture out to Cape Enrage to see the picturesque grand vistas.
“It’s such a beautiful sight,” says Sylvie Migneaut, assistant manager at Cape Enrage. “It’s relaxing, you can really connect with nature.”
With hopes of the Atlantic Bubble reopening by summer, staff are hoping business will be better this year as they offer new guided fossil tours for visitors. ....

Researchers are looking into what life may have been like in New Brunswick over 300 million years ago thanks to a recent find by a father, son, and best friend.
Rowan Norrad and Luke Allen are high school students in Halifax. The best friends have a shared love for paleontology – a passion that recently paid off in the find of a lifetime in the area of Grand Lake, N.B., with Rowan s father.
It s a lot of luck, to be honest, said Rowan. It s spending a lot of time out in the field flipping over a ton of rocks, checking all of them thoroughly and we just happened to flip over the right rock at the right time to get this amazing find. ....

Rowan Norrad, 17, his friend Luke Allen, and his dad Donnie Norrad, found what has turned out to be a large dragonfly wing fossil at a site where they previously found 310-million-year-old reptile, amphibian and invertebrate tracks.
