Gina M. Raimondo, has been named head of market affairs for New England at Orsted A/S, the Danish power company announced Tuesday. Ortiz will be responsible for leading the development of the company’s overall market strategy and will oversee its execution for planned offshore wind farms across New England, including for Revolution Wind serving Rhode Island and Connecticut and the South Fork Wind and Sunrise Wind projects serving New York, the company said. ....
PROVIDENCE The owner of the first offshore wind farm in the nation is set to build an assembly facility at the Port of Providence to support the development of much bigger projects that would supply power to Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York. Orsted, the global leader in offshore wind development and operator of the five-turbine Block Island Wind Farm, joined on Wednesday with its partner Eversource to announce construction of the facility that will fabricate and assemble foundation platforms for what could amount to more than 100 wind turbines. New London A nearly yearlong stalemate ended on Friday with the signing of a host community agreement between the city and Ørsted and Eversource, the joint venture partners planning to use State Pier in New London as a hub for the offshore wind industry. Mayor Michael Passero signed an agreement that would secure at least $750,000 per year to the city over a seven-year period, if the project is developed as planned, with provisions for extensions up to 10 years. The agreement is a compromise from a higher number Passero had pushed for but amounts to a $250,000 a year increase from North East Offshore’s original offer. It contains provisions for an increase in payments, up to $1.5 million per year in years three through seven, linked to the purchase of more offshore wind power by the state. The more wind power the state procures, the more money the city stands to gain up to $9 million over the course of the agreement if the state hits 1,600 megawatts. Increases i ....
