14th South Asian Games to be held in Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Islamabad in March 2023

LAHORE: The 14th edition of the South Asian Games (SAG) will be held in Pakistan’s cities of Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Islamabad in 2023. The 14th South Asian Games had originally been expected to take place in 2021 but the coronavirus pandemic has delayed those plans. Pakistan has hosted the event twice before in Islamabad in 2004 and 1989. Nepal’s cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara staged the last South Asian Games, 13th edition, in 2019. A virtual meeting of the South Asian Olympic Council (SAOC), regarding the 14th SAG, was held on Tuesday. The meeting was hosted by the National Olympic Committee Pakistan under the Chairmanship of Lt Gen (r) Syed Arif Hasan, who is also President of the SAOC and President of the Pakistan Olympic Association. In their endeavour to support National Federations (NFs), the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) requested NFs to submit their requirements for equipment and sought assistance from The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) through the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for funds to meet the requirements.
After making a request from their higher authority and obtaining approval, ANOC distributed the requested funds through OCA to NOCSL to fulfill the requirements of the NFs.
13 of the 15 NFs who responded within the NOCSL deadline received their requests at a ceremony held at the ‘Hemasiri Fernando’ Auditorium recently. ....

NOC SL -Crysbro join to empower next Olympic hope

As part of its ongoing mission to empower and support the aspirations of young people in Sri Lanka, the country’s premier poultry producer Crysbro recently held a scholarship awarding ceremony to hand over scholarships to a select group of 20 gifted young athletes selected under the NOCSL-CRYSBRO Next Champ Initiative. The ceremony took place at the NOCSL Sri Lanka Headquarters with the presence of Suresh Subramaniam – President of the Sri Lanka Olympic Committee, Maxwell De Silva – Secretary General of NOCSL and Crysbro Senior Marketing Manager – Amores Sellar as chief guests.
The primary objective of this vital initiative is to identify and empower talented young athletes, and refine their potential to be winners in the international sporting arena. The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) has re-opened its auditorium, following renovation work partly funded by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
The NOCSL Annual General Meeting was held in the refurbished Hemasiri Fernando Auditorium in Colombo last month.
It marked the first time that an event had been held in the building since its re-opening on December 14.
NOCSL President Suresh Subramaniam and secretary general Maxwell de Silva had formally re-opened the auditorium.
The renovation work was aided by the OCA, which contributed $100,000 (£73,000/€82,000) under its Olympasia project ....
